teropa reported issue XSG-14845: No ILS signal at EFKT rw 34 in reference to scenery pack 73472 on November 8, 2023 10:20 AM
Closed

There is no ILS LOC/GS signal available at EFKT rw 34, using latest scenery updates with latest X-plane 12 beta. LOC freq 111.90 MHz

EFKT uses the same frequency in both directions (16 and 34), but only one direction can be active at any given time.

In X-Plane, the active airport flow decides which runway is considered active. In case of wind favouring 16, you will get a localizer only. In case of wind favouring 34, you get LOC and also a GS for that runway. But in order for that to be turned on, the airport needs to be using 34 as the active runway.

Make sure "shutdown downwind ILS" is active (that's the default in a clean install of X-Plane) and then use the weather settings to set the wind so the airport prefers one runway over the other.

Phillip, this was on an online flight. I cannot choose runway just so that the ILS works in the scenery. It has to work if it's published on the chart.

Optionally, you can also un-tick the box for “disable downwind ils”.

In this case, X-Plane will take a best guess at which one you want based on the heading you are flying. So it works when you are intercepting the ILS at a <90 degree angle, but the indications are not realistic if you fly a circle around the airport for example.

Ok, yes well that is an option. I checked from Video, because I remembered that I did not get a Localizer signal either. You were right in that this one was a "downwind" approach, hence ATC vectored for ILS34. (straight in, practically). But I did not get a Localizer either. Is this correct behavior?

missed from above text: was a downwind approach due to very low wind + straight in approach opportunity. Check the screenshot, it's from Video. Shows no localizer signal available. Shortly after that I performed go-around and re-planned RNP34 and flew that.

the option to keep all ILS on regardless of wind is on the Map screen. As I said, then 😜lane will take a best guess based on your heading, but you’ll be able to land with a tail wind

Sorry I am slow... what selections can I set in X-plane to always get a published LOC/GS signal for an approach that has it published on the chart? Just untick disable downwind ILS box?
