Attention authors, this airport is in extension to become the next international airport of Crete. So to anticipate for the change, the airport boundary shall include the area of the airport, including the newly developed area, so that any LR world recut would cater for it, terrain triangles wise.

I've restarted from last approved scenery to build upon (96414 – Julian). I used this last validated scenery and integrated inside my recent changes with care. I drop that new submission so that future builders can build upon, since Kasteli is into rapid changes. This submit number 99464 should provide a clean, robust platform from now on for WED builders for LGTL. Of course, corrections, improvement and build upon will be required on top of #99464, especially, as the scenery pack 99464 was rejected with "quality control issues", but that was kinda expected given the purpose of the submit. It's nice to leave this submit as reference which does represent the evolution of the airport in 2023/2024. Best regards.

Hi.
As the new international airport is developped on new grounds, and X-Plane earth model still sample the old hills and valleys of the area, flatten was required to cover the new expansion of the airport.
I hope the result of unflattering hadn't a detrimental effect in X-Plane 12.2 and was tested?
Construction of the new Heraklion International Airport in the Kastelli area on Crete is advancing at pace, with 60 percent of the project already completed and full delivery expected by 2027, according to Greek Transport Minister Christos Dimas.
Once operational, the new airport is expected to become Greece’s most modern air transport hub and a major driver of regional connectivity.
Dimas, following a recent visit to the site, described the project as one of the most significant infrastructure investments in the country. “The construction of the airport is a project that will truly transform not only Crete but also Greece,” he said.
He noted that progress had advanced from 40 percent just a few months ago and that momentum remains strong despite the project’s complexity.

During talks with local officials and representatives from the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA), Dimas acknowledged that the project still faces several challenges.
“In a public undertaking of this scale and complexity, some issues are inevitable,” the minister said. “However, by holding regular meetings to resolve any outstanding matters, we are confident we will keep the project on track and deliver strong results.”
New airport to boost Crete’s passenger traffic by 20%
The 1.5 billion euros project, led by construction giant GEK TERNA, will replace the aging “Nikos Kazantzakis” Airport in Heraklion, which is expected to handle around 10 million passengers in 2025 – a volume that far exceeds its intended capacity.
“The new airport will meet the growing demands of Crete’s tourism sector and increase passenger traffic by an estimated 20 percent in its first years of operation,” said Manos Moustakas, General Manager of Business Development and Board Member of GEK TERNA Group, when speaking to the media.
Set to replace Heraklion Airport by 2027
Set for completion in 2027, the new Kastelli Airport will feature a modern terminal building, expanded runways, and auxiliary infrastructure, including parking and support facilities. Equipped with the latest technologies, the airport is designed to improve the overall passenger experience while significantly increasing aircraft handling capacity.
Once operational, the new hub is expected to enhance Crete’s connectivity, support regional development, and position the island as a more competitive year-round destination.
