Google Earth co-ordinates look good, but unable to find any documentation for this heliport. Additional supporting info requested.

  • YawString October 26, 2017 6:51 PM

I don't unfortunately have any information except for the fact that this helipad appears on aerial photos, for example

    https://goo.gl/maps/UAqcVD4F7vT2

I assume this is not a public heliport but a private helipad for use by Radiotelevisione Svizzera (the national Swiss broadcaster).

I originally included the buildings for Radiotelevisione Svizzera in my scenery for LSZA, as they are a landmark for the rwy 19 Charlie circling, but I noticed that the station has a helipad, which is why I thought I might break it out into a separate scenery.

I don´t think we should require "official" documentation for any small helipad or forest landing strip... if they are existing in the real world (proven by satellite imagery) we should also be able to have them in X-Plane.

There are likely many gravel or dirt strips in the less civilized parts of the world that have no official mention...

    I second that.
Or require that this location has some visible features in the real world identifying it visibly as a helipad. Since helipads in X-plane always have a marking.

X-plane should resemble the visual world, not the legal one. Otherwise it would REALLY get weird.

Confirmed on Google Earth. Airport identifier unconfirmed. Reporters evidence accepted.

Outstanding job on this site, Yawstring. However, I think that some autogen trees from nearby forests infringe on the "grassy patch" where the helicopters are supposed to land. You can distinguish them from intentionally placed trees easily. See attached pic.

I've checked, and all of the trees in that screenshot are ones I placed manually.

I used a mixture of "tree objects" and "pointwise forests" – which is why the trees look different and why it may look as if there are default trees infringing on the grassy area.

Take a look at the location in the "3D satellite" view of Google Maps – it really is a very confined landing area, and I tried to recreate that. Nevertheless, I just uploaded a new version that adds an "object and forest" exclusion on the grassy area, just in case default trees get added there in the future.

    Hi Yawstring,

I understand and its certainly a matter of technique. But if you use the default forests, you will get "random placement" of trees on every reload (I think) - which may not be what one wants when creating a very confined landing area. In addition - the forest-trees look BUTT UGLY and are grossly oversized. Both is necessary to render good looking forests (from a certain distance) whith an exceptable framerate - but it really looks bad up close, with lots of trees having very low resolution and being "one-dimensional", only.
Especially with the rest of your site so nice and carefully placed, the forest-trees really struck me as being "out of place"

    Cheers, Jan

I use the fruit orchard forests for such - smaller and very evenly shaped tress all thoughout.

The airport ID for this heliport was hijacked by PaulFlys and used for a hospital in Venice. I have filed for a new airport ID at this location and will upload the TV headquarters once it is approved.

    Scenery reinstated, trees pruned.

Interestingly enough FlyingPauls "hijacked" this airport ID from the orignal scenery, a helicopter landing site of the Televisione Svizzera headquarters in Lugano, Switzerland, probably out of ignorance. This effectively deleted Yawstrings scenery of that TV station. Julian did not catch this hijacking.

I have filed for a new airport ID at the site of the TV station HQ, and will upload YawString´s old scenery to that ID´s location when it is approved.
