Why not give the ability to import the overlay of an airport directly from different sources? for example Bing, Google, USG etc? It is very hard to download a photoscenery and then allign & divide it manually.

I believe the issue would be with the copyrights the individual companies have regarding using their images.

    Yes,
the stated "rights to use" of much of this imagery is too restrictive to use in WED.
In between, you might want to look at a freeware tool "wedbing" that does that for you in a fully automated way.

I know many of the tools available (probably all of them), but I suppose the "private use" of the images is not forbidden.
By the way, at least you could consider to implement an internal tool (in WED) able to cut big geo-referenced orthophotos in squares (2048 or 4096 pix) instead of having to import them one by one and try to align all of them manually.
There is no "practical" tool that gives the possibility of working with orthophotos easily.

    I put here an example:
I use to import a bing or google ortho, with georeferenced points (using SASPlanet software), so i precisely put the image in the scenery (if WED does not hangs because of the size of the image...).
I can design over it, but I cannot use it inside xplane because it does not respect the square format, and WED does not "cut" the big image in small geo-referenced squares.
The only way to put the image in the scenery is to cut the big image in squares (using Photoshop) and import them in WED.
Then is necessary to align them manually (impossible to do it correctly because it is not possible to import the image with the correct original size nor to enlarge them to a specific size nor to "snap" the borders of them together, nor to "snap" a vertice in a specific position without deforming all the image).
It could be very helpful to have the ability to do this inside WED automatically, or at least to have some tools to align the images easily and with some precision.
    Thanks
