I was attempting to create some ground markings for taxiways and found that poly's from OpensceneryX do not appear in the preview pane or in the map pane. It does not seem to matter whether these are draped orthophotos or draped poly's. Objects are not appearing either. These do appear in WED 1.5.1. I have attached two screenshots that I hope will help. In the screenshot labeled WED_1.6 you can see I added a poly from MisterX that does show up.

    Thats odd,
I just tried in Win7 and Linux and they show up fine in the preview windows as well as in the map pane.
Also, I placed a glider object from OpenSceneryX as well and it also behaves prefectly normal - see the test scenery I attached.

    Please help me out -

    • were the no-shows in your scenery placed in WED 1.5 or 1.6 ?
    • what happens when you do a Edit->Reverse on the problematic polygons ?
    • does validation suggest any issues ?
    • does the attached earth.wed.xml show the objects ?
    • do you have ANY OpenSCeneryX items that show in either the Preview or Map panes ?
    • when compiled to DSF, does XP show them ?
    • what does the PreviewPane show for the Mister-X polygon (which I don't have right now)

I'm attaching more pics to show what is happening. In picture number 1, I opened up your file and tried to place the same poly's that you did using WED 1.5.1 and everything seems to show up. Pic number 2 shows the file opened back up in WED 1.6 and the poly's placed at the bottom were created using it. You can see from what you created and what I did in 1.5.1 that the polygons seem to disappear except for the asphalt.pol. The aircraft objects have vanished as well. Picture 3 has the file opened back up in 1.5.1 and everything has returned to normal.
Selecting Edit>Reverse doesn't seem to do anything.
    The file passes validation.
Most objects do not show up in either the preview or map pane. This is the same for .for and .lin files.
It does appear that at least most items do appear in XP

Seems to me there is a operating system specific issue in loadiing the images used for preview due to something with some (but not all) OpenSceneryX items. The asphalt and cracks textures do show, while the red background .pol texture ones do not. Both the cracks and the red background textures are RGBA in .png format, no smoking gun there either.

And the glider object (and possibly others .obj in OpenSceneryX) is a fully textured object, so it lack of display could have the same root cause as the .pol textures.

    I'll investigate.

    Final questions:

    • Did you run validation in WED 1.6 and check it has nothing to complain about ?
    • OS and patchlevel / service pack you're using ?
  • Kirk33 January 23, 2017 10:04 PM

It passes validation when set to 10.50 and 11.00 without complaint.
    I'm running Windows 10 version 1511.

If you go back to the release notes you put up on the .Org, mishaikin posted a picture showing what seems to be the same problem using Opensceneryx and he's on Linux.

If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask, I'll try to answer as time allows.

    Kirk33,
I think this here is the exact same issue as mishakins post.
Only task left for you would be to verify the issue also happens when you disable opensceneryx and replce it by the attached mini-version of it instead. We need that to create a self-contained test case.

@tgreene I don't have a full MSVC setup on Win10 and this one seems to require it.
    In Summary:
Under Win10 only (Linux and even the WIn64 binary under Wine are fine)) some, but not all textures of the freeware addon library OpenSceneryX are not displayed in WED. WED editing, im/export, display in XP are not affected. Other addon libraries out there are fine (as far as we know for now), Laminar default libs are fine, too.
It effects pretty much all textured things like .pol. .obj, .for etc and the display is nothing (not even a solid surface) instead of the desired texture.
The attached earth.wed.xml should look like the upper half of attached 1.jpg, but rather looks like the upper 3rd of 2.jpg.
The glider ( textured .obj) is missing, along with the red and yellow draped polys, while the big asphalt polygon and a semi transparent crack.pol above the glider display fine under all operating systems - and all these objects are from the same library.

All these textures are RGBA .png's, so RGB vs RGBA isn't likely the issue.
One of the textures that show fine are actually the last 2 entries in the library.txt, so that suspicion goes cold, too.

Looks more like e.g. WED_ResourceMgr::GetPol() never finds some textures and returns false for some reason.

Since the WIn64 binary under Wine work fine, I suspect its not the STL, but the Win10 file or pathname handling.

The OpenSceneryX library is quite large and cannot just be downloaded (it uses a XP style installer), so did attach a OpenSceneryX-mini library which has only a small subset of items in there.

Okay I've tried the using the X-Mini file that was attached and got the following results. None of the objects appear in either the preview pane or the map pane. In the attached picture the polygons that are shown in the hierarchy on the right show up on the map and preview panes with the exception of the runway_closed.pol. as I included that as an example of the problem. None of the other polygons show up either.
It is possible that other libraries could be affected as well but I've not checked.

Can you post where you X-Plane folder is, the location of the WED exe, and the location of the OpenSceneryX folder is? For me it is working, including if WED.exe is on my Desktop and the x-plane folder is on an external harddrive.

  • Kirk33 April 10, 2017 4:44 PM

I have XP 10.45R2 installed on my desktop with OpenSceneryX installed in the custom scenery folder.
XP 10.51R2 installed on my D drive at the root with OpenSceneryX in the custom scenery folder.
XP 11R1 is also on my desktop and this is the demo version and I have added OpenSceneryX to the the custom scenery folder.

I have a folder on my desktop named Scenery Programs that contain the folders for WED 1.5.1 and WED 1.6b1

When using WED 1.6b1 with XP 10 versions, OpenSceneryX items do not show up in the Library Preview Pane or in the Map Pane. I just see an outline as the earlier attached pictures show.

Today using WED 1.6b1, I have imported from the Gateway KBFI scenery pack 46242 as it appears to be for XP11 and Boeing field is in the demo area. When I select an OpenSceneryX poly I can now see it in the Library Preview Pane but I still only see the outline in the Map Pane. See attached pic

If I open the KSEA demo area with WED 1.6b1 I can see the poly in both the Library Pane and Map Pane. See attached pic.

Since originally filing this bug I have updated Windows 10 to version 1607 and it did not make any difference.

    Hope this helps a little.

This version of WED contains the functionality to display what the result of

The package manager's computed path of the local package + the library's reported resource path.

It also displays what resource the pane is trying to show.

Additional things to display can be added quite easily.

  • Ted Greene April 12, 2017 5:05 PM

Kirk33, try this new special WED_debug_print_on_prev_pane.zip and comment what Resource and Full Path entries show up in the preview pane.

Try this out for some of the Laminar library objects, some of the Open Scenery X models that do show up, and some of them that don't. Thanks for your continued support on this bug!

Well this helped solve the problem at least for me in regards to XP10.

    Placeholders.

In picture Ex10_1 you can see the path is pointing somewhere else even though I had KGRR open. Ex10_2 shows the problem files. Once I removed the five sceneries from my custom scenery folder and removed the entries from the scenery.ini file, I can now see everything in both the Library and Map pane as shown in picture Ex10_3. The sceneries were all from the same site: http://theosdavis.com/xpfiles/scenery/scenery.html. I have very very few custom sceneries so who knows how many authors may have used placeholders.

XP11 I'm only seeing the poly's in the Library Pane whether it was from OpenSceneryX or LR when I placed them in KBFI. Ex11_1 and Ex11_2. I have only added KBFI from the Gateway and OpenSceneryX to the custom scenery folder in XP11 and I'm only running the demo. Not sure if that would make a difference.

Glad to see XP10 is working.

How easy is it to reproduce the bug in Ex11_1 and _2? Is it only that you can't see a preview on the map? What does it look like in game?

For those custom scenery folders you removed, can you upload the library.txt files found inside (if they had any)?

For the map drawing bug (Ex11_1 and Ex11_2) can you upload that earth.wed.xml file too?

  • Ted Greene April 17, 2017 12:32 PM

For Kirk33, can you put the stuff related to the library and XP10 on WED-836 Closed

  • Kirk33 April 17, 2017 10:45 PM

This bug happens every time so I'd say it's very reproducible. Launch WED and try to add a poly from opensceneryx and it doesn't appear in the map pain. I can see the poly's in the Library pane but I only see an outline on the map from the openscenery library. The poly's are showing up in game as they should.

From the Laminar library everything shows up as it should if it is from the g10 library.

The concrete and asphalt from Laminar's library do NOT show up in the map pane, only an outline.

I'll attach the earth.wed file from KBFI which is the only airport I've tried for XP11 and I've added four polys where I only see the outline in the map pane.

This bug continues in WED 1.6b2

I'll upload the library files if they exist and I'll add the name of the scenery's to each file if that'll help.

  • Michael Minnhaar August 8, 2017 2:11 PM

The provided KBFI example has the pavement transparency set to 0% - which causes ALL polygons in the map view to be shown as an outline only. Setting it to non-zero makes the textures all show properly in WED 1.6.0r1 for me.

To me, the report of the texture showing up in the preview suggest the EXPORT_BACKUP / resource loading (which was a real problem and which Ted successfully hunted down with this WED debug version) is NOT the underlying root cause here - as it would affect the preview pane as well.
