I currently fly out of this airport and considering making some edits to correct a few inaccurate elements. First on this list is trees that interfere with 35L.
Hi cwattie, that is most excellent news! Nothing beats someone with local knowledge fixing up an airport. Looking forward to your results.
Remember to lock the airport here while you work at it and also let us know (maybe with some progress pics?) here: https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/forum/413-scenery-gateway/
I'll definitely post some screenshots with progress. I started out just wanting to add taxiway C to the flight school I fly out of and get rid of some trees down at the end of 36L but then that led to something else which led to something else, etc. I'm sure you know how that goes. So I'm now using it as a way to learn WED. Watching your WED video tutorial series now. Absolutely outstanding! I'm making some decent progress but always in the back of my mind wondering if they will be accepted :) As a pilot there I think some trees and other landmarks are important to the airport so hoping some of that isn't wasted work. I fly with ortho of the area installed but decided to optimize my work on the airport assuming someone is just using default scenery. In another day or so once I'm a bit more confident I'll lock the airport.
I've wrapped up work on my updating of KDTO and I think it turned out good for my first attempts at editing an airport in X-Plane. I didn't set out to change much but one thing led to another and I basically ended up revisiting almost all aspects of the airport except for the basic design of a lot of the hangers. Most of those were ok given the constraints we have when using just the Laminar libraries. As recommended, everything is optimized for the default X-plane graphics but I also made sure it looked good with Ortho which I tend to use for the areas I fly in. I put a few pics of those out there too.
I am submitting the airport for review and approval. In the end, if it doesn't get approved that's ok too. If nothing else, I learned a lot and now have a great version of KDTO that is much closer to how it really is and that will help me quite a bit as I continue training for my private pilot certificate in real life.

As I suspected, the forests outside the airport boundary were cause for rejection. Seeing as previous versions of this airport had approved forests outside boundaries, really looking forward to X-Plane 12 to see what all they have in store for the scenery and the ways it will improve. I've fixed the flagged issue, added a few exclusions, and made some other additional improvements to the airport in this 2nd submission to improve the overall quality level and polish. Fingers crossed!
