FSFlyingSchool reported issue XSG-10259: Odd prefix in the airport name on May 6, 2020 10:13 AM
Closed

This is the only airport name that is prefixed with |X]

Is there a reason for this? If not the characters should be removed as they look like an error in (3rd party) software.

Actually I think it's a typing error and should be "[X] Marigny le Grand" (instead of "|X] Marigny le Grand")

Looks like the comment system remove the X in square brackets, so it should be prefixed with [ X ] without the spaces

Fighting the markdown... last attempt: `[X`]

The reason for this [X] is probably a real-world closure of this airfield, and there are some more airfields with designation...
[X] means "airfield closed", [S] means "sealane" and [H] means "heliport".

Thanks Chris, so it needs to be changed to [[X]] instead of |X]]

Yes - this is like an unwritten naming convention. Some closed airfields are retained for their landmark/visual navigation point value. The users will either prefix the name with a [X] or add a (closed) or (clsd) to the name. Nothing really written in stone.

If you find a typo like that, you can either report it here (and hope that someone will step in and fix it at some point in time) or much faster: Download the airport in WED, fix it, re-upload the airport to the Gateway.

    Cheers, Jan

Airport names starts with "|H]" instead of "[H]" (first character is a pipe symbol instead of square bracket. This caused issues importing data to my new ILS management system, that used the pipe symbol as a field separator.
